René Rostaing, whose underground cellar is situated just by the river in Ampuis, is one of the modern stars of Côte Rôtie. He is a very clear minded, flexible character, who treats each vintage on its merits. He has owned 2 hectares of vineyards in both the Côte Blonde and La Landonne since the 1970's. However, with the benefit of inheritance, namely 4 hectares from his father-in-law, Albert Dervieux and 1.4 hectares from his uncle, Marius Gentaz, he now boasts a significant holding of 7.4 hectares. René destems the majority of his fruit, however this does depend on the year, and his wines spend two years in oak before bottling. Wines at this domaine show a quite extraordinary concentration, are very individual and testament to one of the true superstars of Côte Rôtie.
