1688 - Landing of William of Orange at Torbay SOLD
This rare silver medal by R. Arondeaux commemorates the landing of William of Orange at Torbay on the 5th November 1688 (MI i 639/65). William had been invited to England by the Protestant Party in England. James II and his Catholic heir fled to France on the 9th December 1688 and the administration was offered to Wlliam later that year. William and Mary were crowned on the 21st April 1689. The reverse of the medal shows William landing at Torbay and James II fleeing to France. The diameter is 50mm and the condition VF. There is an edge knock on the obverse.
