This is a 24"x36" poster of General Zhang Xiumei, a Hmong of Guizhou province who led one of the biggest rebellions against Qing Dynasty. This rebellion started in 1854 and ended in 1873. It took Chinese forces from half a dozen provinces to suppress this rebellion. General Zhang Xiumei was captured and killed in Changsha, Hunan. Hundreds and thousands of Hmong were killed and forced to scatter. Despite the suffering, the Hmong were pleased to never surrender to oppression, forced assimilation, and annihilation. Only through the painting of Yang Tong He that General Zhang Xiumei is brought back to life.
