The head unit has a modern ergometric design featuring a large backlit LCD display. Mode Selection Manual. Gives steering control back to the helm. The display heads will show the magnetic compass heading. Auto. The autopilot will maintain the vessel on a desired magnetic course. GPS. When connected to an NMEA GPS input, the autopilot can steer to a waypoint, or to a series of waypoints. Once the vessel is following a GPS course, the effects of wind and the tide are effectively negated.

The AP45 can be integrated into the vessel's navigational system to provide a fully automated package.
