Story-telling cinema at it's best. Leslie Cheung and Joey Wong are perfect in the leads and who dares not worship at the feet of 'Swordsman Yen'. Has an amazing defiance of the conventions of 'genre' ...at one point it just bursts into a musical song about Taoism for no definable reason...Great! Wonderful setpieces too, especially the scene in Hell, and the soundtrack is also perfectly judged. The greatest credit to the film is that you are genuinely moved by the plight of the lovers and that, like all classic stories ...it gets better with every viewing. This special 3 disc set contains all 3 films in the series, A Chinese Ghost Story 1, 2 & 3.
