The impact of the Globalization of the Economy
This book contains PWPA delegate reports on the impact that the Globalization of the Economy has had on the Politics, Society and Family in their individual countries. The countries, who responded to the survey by January 15, 2000, included Afghanistan, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burundi, Cameroon, Chile, China (Beijing and Taiwan), Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Guinea, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malta, Morocco, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria, Russia, South Africa, Tajikistan, Togo, Uganda, Ukraine, United States, Venezuela, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. These reports were presented to the Eighth International Congress of Professors World Peace Academy, February 10-14, 2000.

Each country provided responses to the following questions:

1. OVERVIEW OF THE NATIONAL ECONOMY: Description of the basis of the national economy, the makeup by sector, the general health of the economy (savings or debt burden), a broad overview of the tax structure, and any other helpful general information.

2. INTEGRATION OF THE NATIONAL ECONOMY WITH THE GLOBAL ECONOMY: Description of the balance of trade, major exports and imports, amount of foreign debt and investment, and any other relevant information.

3. IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION ON NATIONAL POLITICS: How does the global economy impact political decisions and/or the political structure of the individual country? What are positive and negative impacts on politics from the standpoint of individual citizens and families?

4. IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION ON SOCIETY: How does the global economy impact social institutions such as major corporations, labor unions, transportation infrastructure, health services, environmental programs, etc. in the country?

5. IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION ON CULTURE: How does the global economy impact cultural institutions in the country such as traditional values, religion, the media?

6. IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION ON THE FAMILY: How does the global economy impact traditional family life in the country? For example, does it affect relocation, family separation, values taught by the family, etc.?

7. OVERALL ASSESSMENT: Summarize the overall impact of the global economy on the nation, pointing out: a) positive effects on society, and b) negative effects on society, and what can be done to overcome them.
