Following their critically acclaimed debut "After the Wars", Johnny Charmer's Red Orkestra is set to celebrate the release of their second album. Previously a guitar player with the likes of Red Autumn Fall, Neil Leyton, and Charmer, Johnny's songwriting has taken centre stage in the Red Orkestra project, championing the urban folk genre on both sides of the Atlantic.
For their sophomore effort, Johnny enlisted the Machines (ex- The Candidates) as his backing band, and the return of engineer/producer Steve Payne (Boy) assures sonic continuity between "After the Wars" and "Life with the Machines" - you can hear the exponential growth of both Johnny and Steve's talents on this album, and Fading Ways is proud of its artists' development within our growing international community of artists, fans, and street-teams.
"Life with the Machines", combining Johnny's unique artistic voice with influences as varied as Billy Bragg, Morrissey and Suede (apparent in the guest guitar work of George Bettencourt, who co-penned a track), is an album that arrives at a perfect time -straddling the line between singer/songwriter (drawing some comparisons to Damien Rice) and radio-friendly brit-pop classics.
It continues the Fading Ways anti-DRM / fairness to music fans ethical approach that began with Red Orkestra's debut "After the Wars" (2004),which was the world's first internationally distributed CD product issued with the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial -ShareAlike license.
