The Flaming Sideburns is back - even though they never really went away. The brand new single "Lost Generation" gives us a glimpse of what to expect from their forthcoming album "Keys to the Highway": it's a fast and furious yet melodic and melancholic slap across the face.
The Flaming Sideburns is back with a vengeance. Since their latest album "Sky Pilots" the band has taken some time off - well, if you don't count some 200 shows - to get back to where they come from. They got together, all five in the same room, and played. And then they played some more. And played until they felt like it's all coming together again.
It might have taken three years but it was all worth it. Keys to the Highway will present a band full of renewed energy and new tricks up in their sleeve. The Flaming Sideburns still sound essentially like the longstanding purveyors of rock'n'roll we've learned to know but on Keys to the Highway they are heading to yet another direction.
"People keep asking whether we're going to follow the footsteps of Sky Pilots or get back to where we were with "Hallelujah Rock'n'Rollah". That's not the way we work. We wouldn't be here, after ten years, if we didn't keep on reaching for something different", the drummer Jay Burnside states. "So what's the difference? Well, let me try to pull it all together. On our first recordings we were plain crazy, Hallelujah Rock'n'Rollah was wild and Sky Pilots was moody. And now? How about furious? Or pissed off!"
Keys to the Highway is released in Finland on January 31st 2007 and internationally on March 9th 2007. The Flaming Sideburns will return to the road in February and tour extensively around Europe during the Spring. The current line up includes the original members Eduardo Martinez (vocals), Ski Williamson (guitar), The Punisher (bass) and Jay Burnside (drums). Guitar player Peevo de Luxe joined the ranks in 2003. Also served on guitar: Vilunki 3000 (from 1995 to 1996), Jeffrey Lee Burns (from 1996 to 2001) and Johnny Volume (from 2000 to 2003).
