?Clarence and Angel is the award winning story of Clarence, a twelve year old black boy, who moves to New York and attends school for the first time. The child of migrant farm workers, Clarence has worked in the fields most of his young life and as a result, can?t read. Teased by the other children, Clarence responds in anger and his frustrated teacher often banishes him to the hallway. There he meets Angel, a lightning quick Hispanic boy who manages to land himself in the hallway as often as Clarence. For Clarence, there is little hope within the school system, but help does arrive. The ever-talkative Angel begins using visuals from the world they live in, as the unorthodox tools for teaching Clarence to read. Clarence and Angel is a heart-warming, yet unsentimental movie that provides as ingenious look at two boys and the unexpected friendship they develop.
