Painting a soundscape of longing, frustration and ultimately hope in three-part harmony, "Poisoning the Lark" is as challenging as it is thoughtful. Presenting itself like an audio symposium of the complexities of everyday relationships and self-discovery, one listen will remind you of that first song that pulled at your insides where you silently wonder how your life could be captured and summed up in a three-minute blast of rock and roll. Musically, Farewell bring to mind indie rock bands like Jimmy Eat World, the post-hardcore sensibilities of The Black Maria and the emotional ferocity of peers such as Armor For Sleep. Furthermore, this six-piece NC outfit manages to accomplish paying homage to their musical inspirations and still produce a sound that is distinctly their own never is this more prevalent than on "Poisoning the Lark". From the opening track "This Masterpiece", Farewell launches into a furious assault of undeniably gripping, melodic and heartfelt music that is all their own. Lead singer Marshall Davis delivery on tracks like "Kelley Green" is frantic, engaging, articulate and ultimately sincere. Backed by guitarists Kevin Carter and Ryan Morgan, bassist Joe Norkus, Jeff Ellis on drums and the latest addition of keyboardist Chris Lee, "Poisoning the Lark" is a perfect fusion of melody and power. Their songs are both delicate and forceful, setting the framework for the irresistible hooks, anthemic sing-alongs and introspective, unabashed vocals. In short, "Poisoning the Lark" is an album that stands alone on its own as an amazing record while also showing the promise of great things to come.
