Lampen, John
The author claims poets offer confirmation to religious seekers that their glimpses of divine presence and intention are valid. Poets give them a language in which to describe such glimpses without demanding adherence to a belief system they cannot accept.
John Lampen has worked as a peace activist and educator since the1970s. He developed a curriculum for at-risk youth at the Shotton Hall in Durham, England. His work pioneered subjects such as sexuality. In early1980s, Lampen enrolled in the War Studies Department at Kings College for his Ph.D. After receiving his degree, he went to Northern Ireland, where he worked with the Quaker Peace Education Project. This project sought a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Northern Ireland through prejudice reduction workshops, literature distribution and community building projects. After a decade of work in Northern Ireland, Lampen moved to Stourbridge in the Midlands of England. There he worked on the Hope Project with his wife, Diana Lampen. They consult on educational programs with peace themes, working primarily in their own region of England, but also consulting in locations such as the Ukraine, Belarus and Uganda.
