We at The Carousel Store looked far and wide to find the best carousel horse rocker available. This is it! This horse was manufactured by a company that used to build merry-go-rounds. The horses are actual horses that were used on the commercial rides. That means they are very well made, incredibly sturdy and beautifully detailed and custom painted.
150 of these rocking horses were made by a carousel manufacturer using actual carousel horses, few remain. Once these are sold they will never be made again.

Virgil Harrison
All 150 of the horses were built, painted, signed and dated by local artist Virgil Harrison. Mr. Harrison passed away in June of 2001. No more horses will be made.

Composition:
These authentic carousel horses are not the less expensive fiberglass horses, rather they are molded out of a specially formulated resin around a steel "skeleton."

For more than a decade, this carousel horse has been used on new carousels to be used on traveling carnivals. This is a real carousel horse.
Rockers:
The rockers are a beautiful solid oak wood. Even large adults can ride without damaging the rocker. It is virtually impossible to tip over.

Interior Decoration:

Paint:
Each carousel horse has five coats. Before the first coat, the horse is hand finished with progressively finer emery cloth. The first coat is a pre-primer and conditioner. Second is the primer. Next is the base coat. Then the artist painted the horse with his chosen designer colors. Finally, a high gloss urethane clear coat is added. For durability and toughness two part urethane enamel was used.
Brass Fittings:
The spiral pole and the footings are solid brass.
