New stainless steel GL1800 trunk rack with a bright polished surface that has manufacturing flaws. The main perimeter frame was created with about a 5mm twist making one of the four "legs" a bit short although it is the correct length. The Fix?
Clamp the trunk rack into a vice, protecting the tubing with a buffer, and either twist it into the correct shape OR grind 3/16" off the leg. Remember this is stainless steel so there is no chrome to break or crack! These racks have random spots missed by the polishing process but the stainless welding is beautifully smoothed and polished like chrome. A buffing wheel on a 3/8 (.375) inch drill can be used to polish out the missed patches.
