This toolkit, developed by ToucanEd, Inc. and written by Pamela King, offers six lessons for middle and high school students based on up-to-date information from CDC and other authoritative sources. Students research historical pandemics, practice personal health habits to help stop the spread of cold and flu germs and learn steps individuals and families can take to prepare for pandemic flu.
The toolkit also includes two attention-grabbing posters and two colorful pamphlets that emphasize important actions for stopping the spread of germs (view samples).
The students will learn the seriousness of pandemic influenza and how to help their families prepare for a pandemic emergency. They will also learn what they can do to help prevent the spread of flu virus and other disease-causing bacteria through proper hand washing and respiratory etiquette.
A CD is included with a handy PowerPoint presentation which provides a comprehensive overview of pandemics providing background information for teachers and administrators and includes masters for all student worksheets and take-home materials for families.
