Faience Avalon Balt majolica plate made by Chesapeake Pottery/D. F. Haynes and Son, Co., Baltimore MD in the late 1800s. Rich purple tinted floral sprays on the ivory background gives this plate a special standout look. The pottery has a fine body, and a soft rich glaze. Condition is good to very good, with most of the gold lost from the rim. A few light surface cracks and light discoloration on the front, with some crazing and mild discoloration on the back. The Faience Avalon Balt mark is on the back along with a handwritter R, probably the artist's initial.
